January 27, 2004 -- You might have noticed that the official
box art for The Tenement is now
online. I like it. I think Brain Damage Films did a wonderful job
with it. It's a great attention grabber but I have to voice my opinion
about it. I just wanted to let everyone know that I didn't really have
any input on it. I provided them with about (no kidding) 2,000 press
pictures. They had their hands full. What I want to point out,
which I guess is nitpicking, is that there are few discrepancies in the cover.
The Black Rose Killer does not wield an axe in this one. There is a
flashback with an axe but he doesn't go after Michael Gingold's Winston Korman
character with it. It was a shovel. The box art also depicts a
dilapidated tower on the cover. That is a location within the movie but
we only actually see it in the DVD extra "Winston Korman's Movie Marathon".
The real tenement building in the movie looks nothing like that. Again,
I like the cover and I realize what they were going for. I did strongly
express to them that I wanted the Black Rose Killer on the cover and I did get
it. I just wanted to clear the air on that one. I just saw the
cover for the first time tonight in an order ad click from Rentrak.
Rentrak is a profit sharing company who buys up copies from the distributor
and rents them out to video rental stores. Hopefully this is a good sign
of things to come and that it means that The Tenement will be in a
local video rental store near you come April 13, 2004. If not, you can
always buy a copy from our web site.
I am currently taking a break from
post production on Sins of the Father long enough to get the screenplay
for Fairview Falls jumpstarted. I'm a few scenes in and it's looking
pretty good so far. Returning actors will include Joe Lauria (Alec
Woodrow), Sandy Pasquale (Megan Woodrow), Michael Gingold (Eli Korman), Sal
Sirchia (Sal), Michael Valenzano (Oscar Valentine), Gene Mazza (Chopper), Toby
Elmore (Spaghetti), Ed
Shelinsky (the Taxi Driver) and Light & Dark newcomer
Kerri Taylor (Tina).

It looks like we are already starting to take some heat (ReelCriticism.com
review) for the cat killing scene like we did with Fear of the Dark's mouse
smashing scene.
