Light & Dark currently uses Microsoft Front Page 2003 to design and publish all of its web sites.  We design templates that are easy for you to update.  It does not require you to know HTML programming.  If you can use Microsoft Word or a similar word processing program then you can use Front Page.

Our prices are competitive:

Call or email us with a break down of what you would like to see in your web site and we will give you a free quote.

If you have never had a web site before and don't own a domain name for a site we will help guide you through the process or do it for you.

We do also offer ongoing maintenance and updates for your web site if you choose not to do it yourself.

Web Publishing

We can use your existing host server if you have one.  Your account must have enough space to support your site and the server must support Front  Page Extensions.

Currently Light & Dark has been using 100 Megs Web Hosting.  We have found this server to be one of the more affordable and reliable sites that gives you the most for your money.

Current Sites & Publicity

Below you will see a list of some of the sites that Light & Dark has designed and developed.  We are still currently the Web Master for many of them.  We have also listed a few of the many articles that have appeared in newspapers talking about the work that we have done.

Putnam Valley Adds Video Streaming Of Meetings To Web Site
Putnam County News and Recorder - April 23, 2003

On Sunday, April 20th, Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Carmelo Santos announced that the current Town Meetings, normally broadcast to Cablevision Subscribers in the area, will also be offered to the public as ‘streaming video’ on the Town’s website, www.putnamvalley.com.

So far as anybody knows, Putnam Valley may be the first Town in the area to take advantage of the new capabilities of streaming video straight from their website. The video is viewed by clicking a browser embedded video window which uses Windows Media Player, and has a download button for the latest free version for PC and some Macs.

According to Supervisor Santos, "We have been very sensitive to the fact that Channel 20 Putnam Valley is not available to everyone within our town, and this new method will permit anybody with a computer connected to the internet to see and hear the meetings if they can’t come to the Town Hall to attend them."

Maryann Arrien, the technician and Town Cable Coordinator for the Town government channel, explains - "Even computers who have a relatively slow internet connection should be able to view the meeting, because we have 4 streaming speeds embedded in the video, so each computer will connect at a different video quality depending on it speed. If a connection is very bad, we even have an ‘audio only’ version so that folks could at least listen to it like the radio."

This new streaming video became possible because the Town website, www.putnamvalley.com was just redesigned by Webmaster Glen Baisley to make it easier for the staff at Town Hall to make changes, easing the Town’s cost of maintaining the site’s constant information updates. "The new website is based on a template from Microsoft Front Page, which is what makes it so much more user-friendly to the staff." Baisley said. "The old site was written in raw HTML, which is a much more difficult programming language to master. I used html to customize the Front Page template with a special look for the Town, and made it much easier to navigate in a logical fashion."

"I am particularly happy," said Maryann Arrien "that the webmaster was able to encode the Channel 20 Program Schedule slide show right into the website, so that I can keep it updated easily as the program schedule changes, and more town events get posted. This will also make it easy for people to know what programs are going to be shown that day, without waiting for a TV show to be over to consult the scrolling information on the TV screen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that on a website before —it’s like a PowerPoint Slide Show on your computer that you can actually click on a particular slide in the slideshow and read it immediately!"

Supervisor Carmelo Santos remarked, "Its all part of what we are trying to do with our approach to Open Government. Ideally, I would like all the meetings to be videotaped and shown on our own Town Channel. This helps people who have busy schedules find out what’s going on, have an appreciation for the issues involved, and hopefully participate and volunteer to help any way they can. We have a limited Town budget, so we encourage people to come forth to volunteer or contribute in any way they can. We couldn’t run our Town without all the volunteer services we have."

Currently, residents of Putnam Valley’s Roaring Brook Lake community have no access to Channel 20 Putnam Valley because it is a Cablevision station. They can, fortunately see the meetings on RCN Channel 8, which broadcasts it about a week later. But for those who don’t have either cable TV service, but have internet access, this will be a new way that they can view the meeting on demand.

"We also realize that not everybody has access to cable TV whether or not they can afford it, or even computers with an internet connection," says Maryann Arrien, Cable Coordinator for Putnam Valley. "For that reason we also put VHS copies of everything we air on Ch. 20 over at the Putnam Valley Free Library. You can actually take them out on loan, and anybody in the Library System can request them for Inter Library Loan. "

The Putnam Valley Library can be reached at 845-528-3242 and is located at 30 Oscawana Lake Road, near the "Oregon Corners" intersection at Peekskill Hollow Road. The Library also has several computers with a fast internet connection, in case you want if view it the ‘new’ way.

Putnam Valley Announces Town Day Celebration on July 19th

“It’s the little things that make a difference,” says Putnam Valley Supervisor Carmelo Santos.  “We want to really make this year’s Town Day something special for the people.”  That is just what he and the numerous organizations involved are doing for Town Day 2003.  This year will mark the first time that a limited edition commemorative pin will be offered for purchase.  The pin, suggested by Supervisor Santos and designed by Jackie Gianico, captures the essence of Town Day and the beauty of Putnam Valley.  It resembles the shape of the town and features a rising sun over the valley.  The pin is festively adorned with fireworks and the words “Putnam Valley Town Day 2003” to mark the occasion.  The cost of the pin is $5.00 and will be available at the Supervisor’s office (845-526-2121) and at Town Day.  The proceeds help support Town Day.

The Town of Putnam Valley is continuing its innovative approach to bringing modern day media to the masses.  A few months ago it launched a new incarnation of the town’s web site which introduced streaming video and sound – www.putnamvalley.com.  Supervisor Santos authorized the addition of a Veteran’s Tribute page on the web site.  “The men and women who have served and fought for our country deserve to be recognized and paid tribute every day.  They’re the back bone of this country.”  Putnam Valley Parks and Recreation worker Thea Moeller, who first suggested the idea, approached filmmaker and web designer Glen Baisley with hundreds of pictures she had taken at various Veteran related town events.  Putnam Valley’s Channel 20 station manager Maryann Arrien edited together the touching video that can be seen on the web page.  Baisley combined all of the elements into the finished web page.  Visitors to the page are first greeted to a salute by 91 year old World War II Veteran, Danny Pelose.  Town Day will continue this tribute with a special recognition for the Veterans.

Putnam Valley’s Town Day, which will be held on Saturday, July 19th, is for all ages.  The day starts off with a Town parade at 12:30 PM which will begin at Kramers Pond Road and end at the Putnam Valley Elementary School where Town Day will be held.  The Veteran’s Recognition will be held at 1:30 PM.  Putnam Valley Parks and Recreation will have games for all ages like the sack race and football toss from 2:30 PM until 6 PM.  Pony rides by MakingStrides4Kids.com from Cimarron Road, Putnam Valley will begin at 1 PM.  Putnam Valley Arts Summer Music Festival will begin at 2 PM and continue until the fireworks show at 9 PM by Colonial Fireworks.  The live music will consist of acoustic, classical flute, jazz and rock performances.

Served up fresh from numerous non-profits and vendors will be the finest of munchies from popcorn to shrimp and snow cones to zeppoles.  The Girls Scouts will even be offering treats for diabetics.  Balloons, crafts, glow sticks and of course the Town Day 2003 Commemorative Pin will be just a few of the items available for purchase.

The Putnam Valley Business Association will also have a booth to introduce the community to many of its local business members.

Shuttle buses will be available for transportation from the Putnam Valley Town Park to the Putnam Valley Elementary School.  For more information, please call the Town Supervisor’s office at (845) 526-2121 or visit www.putnamvalley.com and follow the links for Town Day.
